The Neighborhood

Riad Looma is ideally located in the renowned Bab Doukkala district of Marrakech’s medina, just 100 meters from Dar El Bacha Palace, the royal residence where princes and foreign dignitaries are welcomed.

Bab Doukkala is currently one of Marrakech’s most vibrant areas, filled with beautiful shops showcasing the finest Moroccan craftsmanship. Recently renovated, the district offers both tranquility and security. Riad Looma is a 10-minute walk from the famous Jemaa El Fna square and 8 minutes from the bustling souks.

The modern district of Guéliz is also within a pleasant 15-minute walk, making it easy for guests to explore Marrakech on foot.

Explore Marrakech

You will find below some historical sites and museums located near us and this is good because for the most part, you can walk there while exploring the medina.

Bab Doukkala district

Bab Doukkala district

At the gates of Riad Looma, discover the true spirit of Morocco and immerse yourself in local life in one of the most vibrant and secure districts of Marrakech’s medina, where residents do their daily shopping.

Just steps away, Bab Doukkala Market offers an authentic experience with fair prices and exceptional quality. Here, prices are honest and transparent, allowing you to shop with ease and confidence.

Take time to explore, observe, and enjoy the art of living of the ochre city. A stroll through Bab Doukkala is an invitation to experience Marrakech as locals do.

The Souks of the Medina of Marrakech

The Souks of the Medina of Marrakech

Between Jemaa- El-Fna Square and Riad Looma, passing in front of Dar El Bacha Palace, you will reach the souks of the Medina, which are among the most fascinating attractions in Marrakech.

You will be able to discover all the Moroccan artisanal specialities (basket makers, slippers, spices, decorations, lighting…) they abound with objects of all kinds.

Since the establishment of a tourist brigade, the souks of Marrakech are one of the most secure places in the medina and you can stroll around in complete safety.

The Bahia Palace

The Bahia Palace

Near Riad Looma, you will find the Bahia Palace, a 19th-century palace spanning eight hectares, built in the Moorish and Islamic style. It stands as one of Morocco’s architectural masterpieces, representing a significant part of the country’s cultural heritage and ranking among the top tourist attractions in Marrakech.

Jamaa El Fna Square

Jamaa El Fna Square

A living theatre by day and by night, Jemaa El-Fna Square, listed as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage site, is the beating heart of Marrakech and its medina.

Here, you will encounter snake charmers, musicians, storytellers, and food stalls that bring the old city to life with a vibrant and unforgettable atmosphere.

Surrounding the square, numerous café terraces offer breathtaking views over Jemaa El-Fna — especially at sunset. An experience not to be missed during your stay at Riad Looma.

El Badi Palace

El Badi Palace

The El Badi Palace is an architectural complex built at the end of the XVIᵉ century and located in the medina. Ancient palace, it was built by the Saadian Sultan Ahmed al-Mansur Dhahbî to celebrate the victory over the Portuguese army in 1578 in the Battle of the Three Kings.

Unfortunately, today there is not much left of the splendour of yesteryear. But nevertheless you can still admire some beautiful 16th century architectural works.

The Medersa Ben Youssef

The Medersa Ben Youssef

The Ben Youssef Medersa is a Koranic school, a jewel of Moorish architecture located in the medina of Marrakech. It was founded by Abu al-Hasan, Marinid Sultan.

The current structure of this former Koranic school was built around 1570 by the Saadians and restored in 1950 with 132 rooms and could accommodate up to 900 students.

Outside the medina

Outside the medina

In the modern city of Marrakech “Guéliz”, you will discover the Majorelle Garden.

Named the Majorelle Garden after its founder (the French painter Jacques Majorelle) who created it in 1931, inspired by the oases, Islamic garden and Spanish-Hispano-Moorish garden.

Purchased by Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Bergé in 1980, it has become one of the highest tourist destinations in Morocco with nearly 800,000 annual visitors.
It is part of the Majorelle Foundation, which also includes the Yves Saint Laurent Museum, inaugurated in October 2017.

It is a visit not to be missed during your stay, it’s just magical.
